Karen received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Calgary in 1985. She pursued her desire to work in healthcare and was awarded her diploma in Respiratory Therapy in 1990, receiving the Trudell Award for outstanding academic performance. In 2002, she completed her training in Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture in Calgary, graduating at the top of her class. Her love of travel and desire to elevate her knowledge led her to complete advanced training in Hangzhou, China.

In her work as a Doctor of Chinese Medicine and as a Respiratory Therapist, Karen has accumulated over 20 years of clinical experience. She is able to integrate both western and eastern medical knowledge in her treatments. Since 2006, she has specialized in treating allergies using NAET (Nambudripad’s Allergy Elimination Techniques) which incorporates Chinese Medicine, Western nutrition and kinesiology to treat allergy related conditions. Through advanced training and her experience, Karen has become one of the top specialists in this field in Western Canada.

Karen continues to expand her knowledge and skills to benefit her patients and is certified in:

• German New Medicine
• Biomeridian Stress Assessment
• Chinese Ear Diagnosis and Treatment
• Japanese Moxibustion Techniques

Karen is a member of the College and Association of Acupuncturists of Alberta (CAAA) and the Academy of Naturopaths and Naturotherapists (ANN). She also sits on the advisory board for the Canadian Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

In addition to her clinical practice, Karen has taught both Western and traditional Chinese medicine courses at the Canadian Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine, as well as being a clinical instructor for her students. She also taught Taoist Tai Chi for 5 years. The compassion and gentleness embodied in Taoist philosophy is evident in Karen’s interaction with her patients.
